The F12 was revealed at the March 2012 Geneva Auto Salon in Switzerland as the F12berlinetta. berlinetta means “little sedan” in Italian. The F12 preview for some 450 invited VIPs, 80 percent of those folks (some 360) had placed firm orders on the spot. The U.S. sales will begin in the first half of ‘13 for the 2014 model year.
The F12 will use the 599 in using a four-wheel independent suspension with all-corner coil springs, double wishbones, and driver-adjustable shock absorbers, state-of-the-art carbon-ceramic disc brakes, “high-performance” ABS, F1-Trac traction control, ESC stability system, and a third-generation electronic differential dubbed E-Diff 3. The F12 weighs 360 pounds lighter than the base of the 599.
The F12 will have a 6.3-liter V12 with direct fuel injection and a 65-degree cylinder-bank angle. It's basically a updated version of the all aluminum engine that powered the Ferrari FF 2+2 hatchback. Horsepower climbs by 80 to 730 and peaks at a heady 8,250 rpm. Torque improves by 5 pound-feet to 509, of which 80 percent is available from just 2,500 rpm. The F12 claims to run 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 3.1 seconds, 0.2-sec faster than a base 599, and will top out at least 6 mph faster at 212. CO2 emissions, a major regulatory issue in Europe, have dropped from 415 grams/km to 350.
