2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible - Plus a Preview for The 2014 - 2015 Corvette Stingray Split-Window

What do you think? Is this a photo of the 2014 Corvette Convertible?
The Rear End of The Red Corvette Stingray

Its 60-year run as a roadster in 1953. Other than the span from 1976 to 1985 and the first year of the C5 in 1997, buyers have always had the option of a folding soft top -- which continues with the 2014 Corvette Stingray.

The convertible debuted at the Geneva motor show on Tuesday, the same place the '06 Corvette convertible and the '90 "King of the Hill" Corvette ZR-1 made their world debuts. Chevy chose Geneva for the roll-out because the left-hand-drive Stingray will be sold around the world (Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Japan).

U.S. buyers, the open-top Corvette arrives in showrooms late this year, about three months behind the coupe. In recent years, about one of every four Corvettes sold was a convertible, although that ratio rose to one in three last year with the addition of the 427.

The Stingray's mission of more luxury, all 2014 Corvette convertibles have a power top (C6 buyers could choose between a manual or power-operated cover). Operation is completely automatic -- the driver no longer needs to twist a handle to release or secure the top of the windshield header. A button on the key fob lets you raise or lower the top outside the car, and it can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30 mph.

The three-ply fabric top includes a layer of sound-deadening material and a heated glass rear window. The top is designed to minimize the appearance of support bows. All Corvette convertibles since 1986, the top stores underneath a hard cover behind the seats. In the 2014 Stingray, that cover rises and moves toward the rear to make room for the top. In a styling touch, panels behind the seat headrests on the hard cover are painted metallic black. The convertible Stingray also keeps the waterfall -- a body-colored panel that covers the gap between the seats and wears the Crossed Flags emblem.

But the Stingray convertible still uses rear-mounted heat exchangers to cool the automatic transaxle and electronic limited-slip differential in the Z51 Performance package; air for the coolers is scooped up from underneath the car and exits through vents at the edges of the rear fascia.

The Corvette Stingray convertible gets the same drive-train as the coupe: a 6.2-liter V8 with variable valve timing and cylinder cutoff, making at least 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. As with the coupe, buyers choose between a six-speed automatic and seven-speed manual transmission.

No released curb weight for the coupe or convertible. It says the horsepower-to-weight ratio is nearly identical for each body style, and the frame did not need structural reinforcements for the transition to a convertible. Nor is there any indication of a price.

2013 Super Shelby Mustang

Shelby 1,000
The Black Super Shelby Mustang with Shelby Graphics

50th anniversary last year at the New York auto show with a 1,100-hp Ford Mustang only legal on the track. Fifty-one years isn't as big a milestone, but the race car is even better: Now it's a 1,200-hp monster. The 2013 Shelby 1000 S/C, it will start at $154,995, not including the cost of a base Shelby Mustang GT500.

Shelby based its creation on the 2013 Mustang GT500, which runs a supercharged 5.8-liter V8. Last year, it used the previous-gen GT500, which ran a 5.4-liter engine. The 2013 GT500 makes 650 hp in basic trim and was one of the last cars Carroll Shelby had a hand in making.

The monstrous eight-cylinder is stripped down and engineers fortify the internal components. The chassis, brakes and cooling elements are also fortified. Shelby will make 100 copies of its super Mustang.

Enthusiasts can order a 1,000-plus-hp road-legal model, though the company says it expects all of the demand to be for track cars. Last year, Shelby revealed a 950-hp Shelby 1000 that was road legal, though all of the orders were for track cars.

It will debut on April 6 at the New York auto show.

The muscle pickup truck with the 575-hp rated Shelby Raptor. Based on the 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, the Shelby Raptor adds enhanced power and handling, along with three Shelby graphics packages. Shelby showed off the new raptor at the New York Auto Show, along with the 1,200-hp rated Super Shelby Mustang.

Shelby mounted a 2.9-liter supercharger to the truck's 6.2-liter V8 engine, increasing the horsepower rating by 164 to 575 hp. A six-speed automatic transfers power to all four wheels. An “off-road” mode calibrates the transmission, stability and traction control systems to operate under high-speed off-road situations. The Shelby Raptor is also equipped with 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires.

Only 100 Shelby Raptors will be built per model year. The Shelby Raptor costs an extra $17,995 -- on top of the cost of the truck -- which carries a $44,625 base price including shipping charges.

2013 Ford Explorer Sport Review

2013 Ford Explorer Sport - Photo Gallery of Official Photos and Info ...
2013 White Ford Explorer Sport

2013 Ford Explorer Sport
Rear View of The 2013 White Ford Explorer Sport

Now heading into its third year in this latest uni-body version, the Explorer continues to be a bigger and far more expansively equipped than even the maxed-out Eddie Bauer-trimmed models from the past generation. Now comes the hotshot of the model line, the Sport, which is equipped with the much-needed turbo V6, sharper and stiffer chassis, and the best-looking trim on a Ford production truck short of the F-150 SVT Raptor. The black gloss grille and wheels make a huge styling statement, and the power under the hood backs it up.

It might be that the tauter suspension setup might be a little too rigid for some buyers, especially if your drives require much time on bumpy pavement. It’s a solid and steady driver, for sure, but one that also requires a steady hand on the wheel and attention to the road rather than all the myriad distractions now found in a vehicle’s cockpit. Ford’s effort to minimize those distractions with Touch and Sync are still works in progress in my book -- it’s still way too hard to make some very simple adjustments to basic systems.

the Explorer Sport; that EcoBoost engine gets this sucker going in a hurry. I love how these all-wheel-drive trucks and SUV's take off around a corner, which makes entering divided highways a breeze. I was out on Woodward in the morning, leaving the gas station and traffic was pretty thick. The Explorer is getting pretty expensive in this generation. Sure, we’re getting more than we ever have from the home-grown SUV. But when it nears $50k, you have to step back for a minute. There are several luxury options at that price point.

The Hiriko ialai Roadster - Driving Mobility

Hiriko is exhibiting its ialai concept car in Brussels. This is an electric roadster intended for use in protected natural areas, on open roads, in parks, tourist resorts, islands and green areas. In the context of the seminar “Electric Mobility: Future Challenges for the Automotive Industry”, organised by ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) at the European Parliament, a new prototype is to be presented. This prototype was developed in Vitoria-Gasteiz alongside the well-known Hiriko Fold. The exhibition is also to feature other products of the Basque innovation.

The Hiriko ialai is designed especially for areas with a mild climate. This second Hiriko vehicle is similar to its predecessor: it is an open-top, two-seater electric roadster that can fold. It is registered as a type L7 heavy quadricycle, and all its electronic components are protected in an IP66-rated leak-tight casing.

This new project by Hiriko has a mid-mounted motor rated at 15 kW, giving it an acceleration of 0 to 60 kph in 10 seconds, a haptic steering-wheel with “by-wire” technology and a range of over 100 km. The battery has a rapid charge time of 20 minutes (from 20 to 80%) and a normal charge time of 3 hours. Its speed is capped at 50 kph for city driving, though its top speed is actually 95 kph. Like its brother, the Hiriko ialai has a 210 litre boot and can fold, bringing its length down from 2.6 m to 2,0 m to make the most of the parking space available and making for a distinctive driving experience.

It features a touch screen built into the steering-wheel, a tablet PC built into the dashboard, a smartphone interface and an exclusive smart urban navigation system with specific software that interacts with the urban environment (city information, charging points, parking areas, etc), all of which give this second Hiriko model its own distinctive character.

The Hiriko Fold - Driving Mobility

hiriko - Driving mobility

hiriko - Driving mobility

Manufacturer: Hiriko Driving Mobility
Assembly: Vitoria-Gasteiz
Class: City Car
Range: 75 Miles (120km)
Length: 98.4 Inches (2,500mm)
Curb Weight: 1,100Lbs. (500kg)
Top Speed: 31 MPH (50km/h)

The micro-car is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that allows a range of 120 km (75 mi). The drive motors are located inside each of the four wheels, and has an electronically controlled maximum speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). The Hiriko Fold weighs less than 500 kg (1,100 lb), has an extended length of 2.5 m (98.4 in) and its hinged body allow the microcar to retract its front and rear modules, enabling the Hiriko to fold upwards to 1.5 m (59.1 in) for parking. This feature allows three and a half Hiriko Folds to fit in a typical urban parking space. Each of the four wheels can turn 60 degrees left or right, enabling the car to travel sideways, which makes parallel parking a very easy maneuver to accomplish, and this flexibility allows the car to spin on its central axis.

The driver and the passenger enter and exit the car through the front hatch that houses the windshield. The conventional steering wheel and the brake and throttle controls were replaced with a device similar to an airplane's yoke. When the driver pushes the control stick forward the car speeds up, while when pulled back the car slows down.

The Hiriko Fold is scheduled to be unveiled in March 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show, before entering production during the second quarter of 2013. Retail deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2014, and pricing starts at $16,400 plus battery leasing fees. The company also plans to promote the cars to cities across Europe to expand their car-sharing programs. Brazil have expressed interest in using the Hiriko in carsharing systems.

2015 Volkswagen Golf

2015 Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI BlueMotion 3-door concept interior   A new Volkswagen Golf comes around nearly as often as a presidential election. So it is with the seventh-generation Golf, the latest in a string of cars that has been with us since the Ford administration, arriving for its North American debut Wednesday at the New York auto show. Hail to the chief, for it's the Golf A7. Light, scalable, interchangeable and infinitely flexible, VW has bet the proverbial farm on the mega-platform.

Volkswagen spent $70 billion and four years developing the MQB. Expect the company to recoup its investment in the next four -- if all goes to plan and there aren't any, say, widespread recalls, which could be on a global scale. The 2015 Golf ends the cycle whereby new versions of a car end up heavier than the models they replace. That means a car that's larger than the outgoing one -- by about 2 inches in length and half an inch wide -- but 51 pounds lighter. The 2015 Golf will return with 15 percent better fuel economy across its range.

the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder and hola to the 1.8-liter TSI -- built in a new plant in Silao, Mexico, complete with direct injection and a turbocharger. The GTI will also have its engine built there: the familiar 2.0-liter turbo gets 10 more horsepower, and a chance for more power with the European Performance Pack. Lastly, the TDI will use a new 2.0-liter engine with 10 more horsepower, bringing figures to 150 hp and 236 Lb-Ft.  Both the GTI and TDI will come with a choice of six-speed manual and DSG automatic transmissions.

Chevrolet expanded the Camaro family on Wednesday at the New York auto show by rolling out a new version of the Z/28 performance car. The 2014 Camaro Z/28 uses the dry-sump LS7 7.0-liter aluminum V8, rated at 500 hp and 470 Lb-Ft. The engine gets unique induction and exhaust systems and a low-restriction K&N air filter. The exhaust system has larger-diameter pipes and bypasses the mufflers during hard acceleration. The Transmission is a Tremec six-speed manual with a 3.91:1 ratio.

The New Camaro Z/28 includes a liquid-to-liquid cooler for the transmission and rear differential. The limited-slip differential uses a helical gear set in place of traditional clutch packs. The Brakes have a Brembo carbon-ceramic brake discs -- 15.5-inch units in front and 15.3-inch units in back -- and fixed mono-block calipers. Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires, sized 305/30ZR19, are wrapped around 19-inch wheels. Electronic stability control is standard.

The Z/28 is street legal but designed for racetrack duty. The Z/28 weighs 100 pounds less than the Camaro SS and 300 pounds less than the supercharged Camaro ZL1. That implies a curb weight of around 3,800 pounds. Chevrolet lists the curb weight of the 2013 Camaro SS with a manual transmission at 3,860 pounds and the 2013 Camaro ZL1 at 4,120 pounds.

The Chevy Camaro Z/28 can pull 1.05 g in cornering. Spool-valve dampers enable tuning for high-speed and low-speed bump and rebound and let engineers spec a stiffer damper for the car. Spring rates and suspension bushings are also stiffer. Recaro seats are standard and include cutouts for racing belts. The Z/28 aero package includes a heat extractor vent in the hood, large front splitter, extended rocker panels, large rear spoiler and diffuser. The 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 will be available in early 2014.

2014 Lexus IS Review

2014 Lexus IS Debuts at Detroit Auto Show - The Daily Drive | Consumer ...
Interior of the 2014 Lexus IS Drive

2014 Lexus IS Second Drive (W/Video) - WOT on Motor Trend

the third major overhaul of the Lexus IS: the compact, rear-drive sedan introduced in North America for the 2001 model year and long the sportiest, most enthusiast-appealing car in Lexus's lineup -- before the LFA, At least. the 2014 IS was inspired by the LFA, borrowing design cues and bits of technology. The development team's goal was "the most fun-to-drive car in the segment." Initially, the new IS will be offered in the same V6-powered IS 250 and IS 350 designations as its predecessor.

Its wheelbase and length have increased (2.7 inches and 3.6 inches respectively). The IS suspension is reworked with new control arms and anti-roll bar mounts in front and offset springs and shocks in the rear. Development engineers say the combination increases lateral grip, even with the same tires.
The power train is largely carryover with improvements throughout. Engine castings are lighter, valve size has increased slightly and spark plugs have been moved to the center of the combustion chamber. Specific fuel consumption improves, though output remains the same: 204 horsepower, 185 lb-ft for 2.5-liter V6 in the IS 250; 306 hp, 277 lb-ft in the 3.5-liter IS 350.

All-wheel drive is optional with both, using a chain-driven center differential with a default 30/70 torque split. All IS 250s, and 350s with all-wheel drive, will come with the conventional six-speed automatic used in the current car. Even the least expensive 2014 IS will come standard with high-intensity discharge headlights, column-mounted shift paddles, 10 airbags and subscription-free live traffic and weather information -- transmitted through the HD radio and shown on a map in the center display, no nav. system required.Their are a lot of options for this car.

One option that isn't confusing is the F Sport package, though its content varies depending on the model. More than before, F Sport is less a cosmetic package and more a legitimate performance enhancement. rear-drive IS 350 F Sports add an adaptive variable suspension and VGRS, for Variable Gear Ratio Steering. This trick speeds up the steering when the electronics are set to Sport + mode.

2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo Converible Review

accommodations of the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo convertible ...

This new Low Cost and Easy to Repair Beetle with a 2.0L Turbocharged Engine.

At the time, requirements for cars were simple: that they start, don’t eat too much gas and when they did need some work, require little to fix. Nowadays my demands and those of anyone buying a real, new car are far more involved. A car that would require crawling underneath to adjust the valves seemingly every week. VW has kept up with the times.

A style that isn’t present in other makes. Perhaps the most stylish of these contemporary Volkswagen's is this car, the Beetle Turbo convertible. With the leaning-forward profile of the original Hot Wheels Drag Beetle, the car is as sporty as one of these things will ever get. But drop the top and suddenly you and your three Beetle passengers will be having a great time.

Appointed with Red paint, the car is also as close as this car will get to being sinister, which still isn’t very close. It’s still what is cynically known as a “girl’s car.” But drop the top with a single button in the header and suddenly the car makes sense. Top down you instantly change from being in a car to being out and about on a journey, an adventure.

Volkswagen product planning, if they’re so proud of the heritage conveyed in the Beetle, why not bring back the heritage-heavy Volkswagen van? That thing had character. Remember the Microbus styling study that made the rounds of the Internet 10 years ago? Everyone loved that thing. VW ignored it.

So, lets get down to the basic for pricing and features.
2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo Convertible with Sunroof.

2014 Shelby Focus ST

The New 2014 Shelby Ford Focus ST

Driving the 2014 Shelby Focus ST - Autoweek
The Shelby Focus ST. White with blue stripes, the traditional Shelby colors. The last time anybody saw the Focus ST, it had been painted an eye-searing yellow and parked in front of the media room of the Detroit auto show, the perfect wattage and location to raise auto journalists' eyebrows.

This car carries the Competition decal package with a grocery list of brands like Borla, Eibach and Katzkin in a line on the doors. The blue stripe is offset to the driver's side with one stripe a foot wide, the other merely an inch. Shelby's boys would put the same on the driver's side to better spot his cars during Le Mans competition, or to pinpoint which side has the steering wheel, for international drivers.

the latest product from Shelby American. The "American" moniker is a keen reminder from Shelby that the cars are built in the greatest country on Earth. It is a $14,995 upgrade on top of the regular Focus ST, Ford's strongest contender in the hot-hatch market in 10 years -- since the Focus SVT. Ford wants to break Volkswagen -- as well as Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Ducati, and late-model Corvette Z06es, or anything else that costs $38,000. Shelby's two most polarizing attributes out of the way first: its paint and its price. This isn't the Shelby GLH-S, which mitigated its ugliness by, mercifully, only coming in black. So, this Shelby Ford Focus ST is only $38,000?
